History of Tecpesa

Starting from the initial strategy of being a provider of specialized products and services for the energy sector, the Tecpesa history evolves from a basic distribution company to be a turnkey service provider with engineering product development, manufacturing of components and equipments; and execution of services.

1971. The Origins

The origins of its activity lies in a company created in 1971, called Prodipesa , whose main activity was the commercialization of specific products to the ancient oil company CAMPSA and some years later to the gas companies Catalana de Gas and Gas Madrid.

With the restructuring of the energy sector in Spain in the 80s and the sale of all commercial assets by Prodipesa, the company Tecnicas is founded for the petrochemical industry, this company was aimed at expanding its customer base with new representations, not only for the new oil and gas companies that came up, but also for the process plants that were established in Spain.

Finishing the Century. Own Technology and Internationalization

In the late 80s and early 90s, the internationalization of some Spanish operators makes the company rethink its strategy and concentrate in 3 strategic aspects: development of own technology, expanding its customer base throughout the whole energy industry, and the internationalization of its activities.

In 1992 ends a process of strategic realignment that culminates with the start of operations of the new TECPESA S.A., which is the nucleus of several companies over the following years which will grow to become what today is the TECPESA Group.

1995 is the first year that international sales are realized. TECPESA provides different products to Algeria for the construction of the gas pipeline "Pere Duran Farell" linking Algeria to Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar.

In 1997, one of the new business areas of the company arises: The performance of services without shutdown as a specialized contractor. In that year TECPESA acquires its first machines for drilling holes in pipelines without shutdown –Hot-Taps - with its own staff.

In the late 90s, engineers are incorporated to begin the design and development of own products and turnkey solutions for the implementation of specialized works. The range of customers is extended; not only to energy operators, but also to engineering and contractors working for the sector. Step by step TECPESA abandons the commercialization of distribution products, in order to expand into the engineering and construction department, as well as into the agreements with other engineering companies; and thus be more open to internationalization.
